Actor Yoo Seung-ho is holding his first film photography exhibition. The title is 〈BLUE HOUR〉, the subtitle "Between Light and Darkness, on Brilliant Imperfection." It runs October 3 to 11 at LAYER 7 Studio in Yongsan, Seoul.
The blue hour is the short stretch after the sun has set but before it's fully dark. It's a tricky time to shoot film. There's too little light, so pictures blur easily, and the colors don't come out the way you expect. The exhibition takes its title from that time of day, and the photograph on the poster is one where the bokeh spreads wide.
The Photographed Becomes the Photographer
Yoo Seung-ho has stood in front of the camera for a long time. This time he's on the other side. For the first time, he is putting the photographs he has taken on film cameras together in one place. Scenes he came across in daily life are at the center.
It isn't a photographs-only show. The organizers say it combines video, sound and space. Some of photographer Kim Jeong-won's film portraits of Yoo will hang alongside. The person who takes pictures and the person in them end up in the same exhibition.
A Photo Show Made by a Film Company
The exhibition is planned and organized by Elly Film Co., Ltd. and 333. 333 is Yoo Seung-ho's agency.
This isn't Elly Film's first show of this kind. Founded in June 2021, the company runs a film lab, imports and sells film cameras, and even has an antique film camera museum. Its collection of film cameras tops 2,000. It's a company that handles film and also plans exhibitions and publishes books.
Its photography shows began in 2022 with Choi Jung-hoon of Jannabi, then continued with Damons Year's 〈Mondegreen〉 in 2023 and Red Velvet's Seulgi with 〈nothing special but special〉 in 2024.
There was an actor, too. In early 2025 came Lee Si-eon's 〈Grandma, We're Here〉 (할매, 우리 왔다). A Busan native, he shot the alleys of Jwacheon-dong and Yeongdo on film for this photo essay book, which Elly Film published. The exhibition ran January 11 to March 9 at WYND, a café in Yeongdo, Busan. Fifteen photographs from the book were on the walls, and anyone who came into the café could see them.
Put that show next to this one and you see the range. One hung fifteen prints in a corner of a café for passersby. This one takes tickets over nine days and sets photographs, video and sound together. That's how wide the forms that fit under "film photography exhibition" have become.
